Bulletin Board Cautions

It is important for you to discuss benefits AND risks of any treatment with your doctor before beginning or changing a course of treatment. Please exercise extreme caution when deciding whether to have treatment from any individual who claims that they offer a cure for SD.

Members of this board sometimes post recommendations regarding treatments that have worked for them. These include both "traditional" medical approaches, such as medication or surgery, and "alternative" treatments, such as the use of "natural" herbs and dietary supplements, magnets, massage, and treatment by professionals outside the traditional medical care structure. Some of these methods may have validity, while others are little more than attempts by practitioners or sales people to separate people from their money. From time to time, individual patients will report some success with one of the alternative approaches, but no pattern has developed through the years of any one method permanently helping a number of patients. Individual anecdotal "miracle" stories or testimonials posted to a treatment provider's website may not be genuine, and are not scientific evidence. You need to be aware that some treatment providers actively prey on patients who are desperate for a "cure", and unfortunately this includes potential victims in the SD community. This is the reason for the "no advertising" policy of this bulletin board.

Please also note that this bulletin board is primarily for SD patients and those affected by SD, and posts from individuals or groups not in this category that directly or indirectly promote treatments for SD will in general be deleted immediately - subject to the discretion of the moderators.
