Edit
Jenni and others are on the mark. There is help and you must get the proper diagnosis so an appropriate plan can be prepared. As time goes by, my self consciousness and fear has given way to a strong belief that people are not as rude as you may believe. Actually, I teach college with a very hoarse voice and get great evaluations. What I have found is people want - in my case, students want - to hear people who make sense, rather than being able to sing opera. Also, we stand as winners who are playing the cards we are dealt and are not letting adversity stand in our way. You will see, as you receive proper treatment, that doors will open if we do not pout, act like the victim, or make others feel uncomfortable because we appear uncomfortable and self-pitying.
