Ihave ADSD and lived without Botox for five years. I am still Botox free but recently got the thyroplasty surgery. I sound much better now than before but the biggest reason I opted not to get Botox even though I sounded bad is that I wanted people to just get over it and accept me at face value, however I sounded. Some people did and some didn't but the best thing I got from it is that I sort of started accepting myself at face value. So now my surgery is just an icing on my cake- it doesn't define me and I still respet that my SD is there no matter what. This will help me if the surgery fails in the future. If I hadn't spent that time Botox free, though, I think I'd still be struggling to make my new voice, which isn't perfect, fit into what everyone else expects it to be instead of just being stoked that I can finally be heard at all.Val
