Hi,
Can't recommend any doctors in MI. Have you checked the healthcare providers listed on this website? The ENT you saw is ignorant about SD if he made those comments. I know of a doctor who divorced his wife because he thought it was in her head. She's a doctor too. Some people are not informed, including the medical world. It is not in your head, so don't worry. Just put people in the ignorant category and find someone more knowledgeable. SD is rare so it's not always easy. Pretty soon you will know more than most people about it, then you'll be the expert. :) You can't control the involuntary spasms in your vocal cords so speech therapy will not help that much. If you've had SD for a long time, speech therapy is helpful in breaking bad habits and for breathing correctly. When you call for an appointment make sure that they know about SD first so you're not spinning your wheels. There is always Dr. Bastian in Downers Grove, IL and Dr. Jamie Koufman at the Voice Institute of New York. Both are renowned doctors with regard to SD. If you want to come to Los Angeles, Dr. Gerald Berke at UCLA is fantastic. Those are just suggestions that you might want to check out. Irish |
