Hi there,
I've had SD for 40 years and I've never heard of anyone losing their voice completely. The characteristic of SD is that it is irregular and can vary from good to bad. Speech therapy doesn't help a lot of people with SD, because SD is an involuntary muscle spasm that you can't control. Speech therapy can help you if you develop bad breathing and speech habits trying to compensate for SD. Because I had SD for so long, therapy has helped with those issues. Are you ABductor or ADductor? If your voice sounds worse, it may be that you are straining through the spasms and not being nice to your vocal cords. This is the voice of experience talking. :) Are you under medical care at the moment? Have you considered botox treatments or any other type of treatments? By the way, welcome to the SD community. You will find that everyone is very nice and accepting because we are all in the same boat. There is a lot of information available so explore the website and feel free to ask any question you want on the bulletin board. Someone will probably have an answer. Pat |
