Jamie-I completely understand everything you have posted. I was diagnosed with ABSD in January of 2007 but had symptoms for at least two years prior to that. I am a teacher and had to quit my job because I literally got to the point where I had no voice at all. Very depressing. The good news is that right now, I have a very good voice and can go back to teaching if I want. I worked very hard with a speech therapist who understands ABSD and I also had two Botox shots. My last shot was in August of 2007.
As for the breathlessness and the swallowing issues, I experienced that after each of my Botox shots but that went away after about a week or so. I agree it is frustrating to not be able to walk across the room when I can normally outwalk most people I know.
Don't give up hope and search out a good speech therapist.
Also- if you read on an earlier post on this bb, there are several of us who blog who have SD. It is nice to know that there are people out there like us!
