It's outrageous that it took three years and five surgeries to get an accurate diagnosis, especially in this day and age when so much information is available. However, it wasn't that long ago that people wouldn't ever get a correct diagnosis or they'd be told that it was all in their head.It just shows how much people, including medical professionals, need to be educated about this disorder.
That's weird that your husband has SD too. If you were familiar with it and he had been seeing doctors that were familiar with it, didn't either of you ever suspect that it was SD? What type of SD do you and your husband have - AD or AB? Just curious if you both had the same kind.
My brother has ADSD and I have ABSD. He was diagnosed in 1994 and I was diagnosed in 2004. I didn't even suspect SD because my voice sounded so different from his. Before then, I didn't know there were different kinds.
Anyway, good luck to you!
