Edit
Hi Dave
The benefits system has changed so much since I first 'lost' my voice. But when I did, I went onto incapacity benefit for a while, but I know the rules are changing for that if they haven't already. I also get the disability part of working tax credits, as my 'disability' puts me at a disadvantage in getting a job, although I could lose all that as I have just got a half decent job (start on tuesday)....I got the tax credits as I was on incapacity benefit before I got back to work, so they didn't really query the reasons for it. But every day I do worry that they will decide I am not disabled enough and take it from me (if I am still entitled to it wage wise)

If I had to do it all again, I am not sure that I would have gone on to benefits, I would have fought a bit harder wth the job centre to help me find work that I could do without a voice as it is so hard when you are 'off sick' to then get back into the work place. I only did it through getting voluntary work and then working my way up to paid work.
