I remember when I was diagnosed I felt like the world was ending. And I thought seriously about disability payments. There were a couple of reasons why I didn't do it. #1 is that the payments are usually less than you could have made working. #2 was that I am the kind of person who has to work to keep my spirits up.
So,you might want to think about another option. Somewhere in your state government there is a department called something like "vocational rehabilitation." Those people help people like us figure out what to do when we can't do our jobs anymore. They can figure out jobs you can do, help you train for those jobs, and then help you get a job in that area.
