Edit
Dear Jill,
Yes, I was quite young when SD reared it's ugly head in my life. I was about 13 years old. I can remember having small "glitches" with my voice even younger than that...it was coming on, I guess. I am 44 now. It was about a year and a half ago that I discovered that my problem had a name, and it wasn't neurosis!!!! Knowing has helped me some, and this BB is very nice because very few people in my life understand this "challenge"!
It must be very hard for you to have an established career and then this. Do you have any relatives with movement disorders? I have an aunt with bletharospasm (problems blinking her eyes) and I think a great uncle had SD. I can't be sure as he died when I was quite young.
I don't blame you for not being crazy about Botox. I've never tried it after all I've read from other SD persons on side effects, like having a whisper of a voice for up to 3 weeks...or more, and trouble swallowing...or breathing! That's torture every 3 or 4 months! Now, yearly injections are something I'd consider!
Good luck. Let me know if you'd like to email...Mary
