Glad to hear that you have heard audio clips of SD patients. We have them on our website and you can hear SD voices in the preview of our DVD on SD which also is on our website.

If there is a way for you to meet other SD patients in person, I'd encourage you to do so. There are many local SD support groups and NSDA support leadership volunteers who are willing to take inquiries on SD. They are shown on our website at www.dysphonia.org under "support".

We will be having our 2008 annual symposium in Salt Lake City next week. We have planned a Regional Symposium in Texas for this year as well. Other Regional Symposiums are possible. The symposiums (both annual and regional) are rotated geographically in order to allow people to be able to drive in to attend.

Women far outnumber men in the overall population of SD patients. Over 50,000 diagnosed with SD in the US is still being shown in alot of literature. Of course, the number can be much higher. As the NSDA continues to succeed in raising awareness about SD to the medical and lay communities, this number should change.
